Item Description
This double strand necklace, designed by Christine Laaban for the Parisian jewelry firm of Babylone, consists of a double strand of seafoam green faux pearls supporting conforming clusters of faux pearls interspersed with emerald green décor designed to resemble faceted stones. Babylone’s owner and designer is Christine Laaban who, following public relations experience with trendy ‘Maisons de Couture’ such as Cacharel, Pierre d’Alby, and Delia, established her own line of jewelry in 1986. She again returned to the fashion world where she accessorized catwalks, designed clothing lines for stars in the entertainment world such as Madonna, and collaborated with prominent French firms such as Jean-Paul Gaultier. Babylone’s jewelry, although distributed throughout the world, is still manufactured exclusively at its studio located in the Rue Beaubourg in the Maris area of Paris and uses a predominately female production design team. Marked “Babylone/Paris” on the metal medallion which forms part of the clasp. This retro style item is unused as it was housed in storage for many years. Necklace is approximately 12 inches around in beads, with an extra 5 inch chain. 20th Century.
