Item Description
French Art Deco Crystal “Envol” Vase by Portieux. A conical-shaped vase in Portieux’s Améthyste color. Molded art deco-style motifs depicting the wings of Icarus, the tragic Greek mythology character from Ovid’s "Metamorphoses." He fell to his death in what is now the Icarian sea after ignoring his father’s warning that the feathered wings were held together by wax and might melt if he flew too close to the scorching sun. The “Envol” winged motif was a classic Portieux design. This vase has a smooth pontil with the Portieux signature/logo in the center and an original black and gold Portieux foil label affixed to the exterior reading “Portieux/France/Hand Made/Mouth Blown/Fait Main/Souffle Bouche.” 20th Century.
