Item Description
Pair of Italian Clip Earrings by Valentino Garavani. Each member of this pair of clip earrings is decorated with three long pearl form strands hanging from an emerald green acrylic center housed in a gold tone encasement. Each clip is inscribed “Valentino” on its underside. Valentino Garavani, the Italian born designer and founder of the Valentino SpA brand and company, was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Chambre Syndicate de la Couture Parisienne. He subsequently became one of the world’s most prominent haute couture fashion designers whose clients included Elizabeth Taylor, Julia Roberts, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Princess Margaret. Recognition of Valentino and his fashion empire has included the prestigious Neiman Marcus Award in Dallas, Texas; the Chevalier de la Legion ‘honneur from France where, during his late teenage years and following his move from Italy to France, he acquired his taste for haute couture; and the highest decoration from the President of Italy, the Cavaliere di Gran Croce. Following his 2007 announcement that he would retire from the fashion world, and his final haute couture show at the Musee Rodin in 2008, Valentino was presented with the Medal of the City of Paris in recognition of his contributions to that city’s world of high fashion. These retro style earrings are unused as they were housed in storage for many years. Circa 1960s.
