Japanese Carousel Music Box Designed by Koji Murai for Shoji. Circa 1984. A wooden base supports a revolving ceramic carousel designed by the award-winning Japanese artist Koji Murai for Shoji Co., LTD. Key-wound mechanism plays “The Entertainer” from the 1973 movie “The Sting.” Three horses and one pig on a revolving circular platform under a conical-shaped top. Each panel of its hexagonal stem is decorated with rectangular mirrors. The ceramic component is in a myriad of traditional circus polychrome colors. The octagonal wooden base is inscribed in gilt on various panels and reads “A Lovely Merry Go Round/A Delightful Revolution/Carousel/Pierra dePierre/Designed by Koji Murai/Manufactured by Shoji Co., Ltd/1984.” Black and white sticker reads “Musicalbox/Made in Japan/The Entertainer (Sting) Tune/C-835-0058.”
