Item Description

Late 20th Century Egyptian Hexagonal Table Inscribed with Mamluk-Style Arabesque Calligraphy. Metal stands such as this were used as prayer book rests during the 16th and 17th centuries. This late 20th century stand, which can also serve the function of a table, is of hexagonal shape and its exterior is intricately inscribed with Mamluk-style Arabesque calligraphy. It houses four interior compartments: three rectangular double-door latched compartments opening from the sides and one hinged hexagonal compartment opening from the top. Each of the four compartments is lined with cobalt velveteen. Sits on six Moorish-style feet.
