Monumental Charger With Inlaid Scene of Persian King Confronting Ahriman the Mythological Zorastrian Demon. The central focus of this large and intricately inscribed circular tray is an inlaid copper and silvered scene depicting a Persian King in an encounter with Ahriman, known as the god of evil and darkness in Persian mythology and who returns to earth to wreck havoc every 1,000 years. An observer holding a spear scepter accompanies the King. King and observer are both dressed in period tunics. A winged disc Faravahar, symbol of Zorastrianism, rests below the battle scene which is surrounded by a frieze of eleven inlaid medallions, each engraved with an animal including a camel, goat, rabbit, duck, sheep, and various avian species. Signed by the Artist Reda Pour Hussainiin immediately below the Faravahar. 19th Century.
