Choker Necklace by Christian Dior

This silver-toned choker necklace consists of 40 interlocking hoops, each decorated with tiny crystal or diamond-like medallions. Marked “Dior” in raised letters on the front of the clasp and similarly marked on the reverse side of two of the hoops. French born Christian Dior (1905-1957) entered the market in the 1940’s, producing primarily haute couture fashion pieces for individual clients and designed to complement their outfits. Although Christian Dior was the principal designer, the production itself was usually outsourced to the leading manufacturers. A major characteristic of Christian Dior’s jewelry was prong-set rhinestones. Following Dior’s death in 1957, Yves Saint Laurent became the head designer and the company continued to prosper. This retro style necklace is unused as it was housed in storage for many years.
